We are in the process of revamping our studio as well as planning for the future. We are considering the Workgroup Videohub to connect 3 editing stations to DigitBeta, Component/S-Video/Composite (via AJA io) and DVCPro HD AJ-HD1400. The 3 stations will be on XSAN so we want to be able to capture and output from all of them.

My question is if this workflow makes sense by converting the DVCPro HD to ProRes to use the Videohub. Would it be better to add an additional firewire switcher to the mix? Right now only half our DVCPro HD workflow uses tape. The rest is files via P2 or Firestore. Any input, ideas and experiences are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Adam

we’ve had the BM work group hub for a couple of years now and it works good for routing HDSDI/SDSDI w/422 around fine. I warn you though the power adapter that plugs into the router overheats and expands causing the router to turn on and off. We just soldered the power on to the board, problem solved(late night emergency engineering). As with the ProRez, its an awesome codec i compared it against 10bit uncompressed and there is no difference, but.. you’ll need fast macs (intel quads) to compress on the capture and no PC will decode the files as of yet.

    hope this helps.

    btw we’re running 2-d5’s, HDcamSR, 4 DBeta (NTSC/PAL) and 3 Mac G5 (I need new comp’s)

Hi Del can you give me your advise we have one hdcamsr deck and was planning to use our multibridge extrem with fcp 6.0 to make on a few occasion dub so we would capture the complete tape then output back out to a new blank tape with of course the same timecode preset will using the 10 bit uncompressed be better or ProRes hq is that good to be used this is for 422 recording rgb 444 is of course to mutch to ask for ProRes i think ??? the storage is from ciprico mediavault 5tb if prores hq is that good it wil save us a lot of space until we get a second deck and also the ProRes422 is for digibeta dvcpro 50 and the ProRes422hq is for hdcam hdcamsr and all other 422 hd format right ???
