i’m about to pre-wire a facility that’s going to use the Studio VideoHub. Is there a limit to the length of RS422 cable? we will have HDCAM SR, HDCAM and other decks that will sit in a rack along with the VideoHub. and then use Mac Pros with AJA Kona 3 and LHI cards for control.

also, can you use Cat5 or Cat6 cable for the RS422 runs and just terminate with a 422 connector? is there another recommended cable?

    thanks

I use AJA editing products with Blackmagic Videohubs all the time. I use Belden 1583A cable (CAT 5e cable) for RS422 control, and use RJ45-9 pin D adaptors. I put these adaptors on the back of the Videohub, and just “snap in” the RJ45 plugs, instead of screwing in all those 9 pin connectors. I have been using BElden 1583A for 10 years now, and I have NEVER EVER had a failure. I use CAT 5e coupler patch panels as RS422 patch panels, and they work great.

RS422 can be run for a LONG distance – certainly over 300′ (probably 1000′) without issue.

The Videohub is a world class router, and 100% reliable.
You can get RJ45-9 pin adaptors from https://www.milestek.com
