As a relative AE beginer in the UK, I’ve been trying to work out how Andrew Kramer achieved the effect of the slow moving polygons in the background of his Videocopilot AE Basic Training Promo.

The little dots or star-looking things in the background are particles. If you go through all the Basic Training tutorials, he shows you how to do most of that stuff.

Thanks, I understand the use of a particle system to generate the dots or stars … it’s the slow moving polygons that appear to be in 3D space that I can’t figure out. They look almost like lense flares.

Also I’m not sure why this post has been moved from After Effects to the Apple Final Cut Pro Basic forum.

    Thanks

Oh, I see. I didn’t even notice those before – I just thought that was fog in the background. They look like pentagon shapes that float in the 3D space.

Sorry I don’t know AE well enough to guess how he did that. Although they could be another layer of particles, they seem to be moving out from the center. Whoops…I wasn’t supposed to guess.
