I just got PP 2.0 and I am looking for a good video/capture card. I was looking at the RTX100, only reason for this is that I don’t have PCI-e just AGP. Are there other video/capture cards that do better than the Matrox for a similar price? My system now can’t keep up playing video out to a monitor thru a camera, the picture looks terrible(interlaced heavily, stuttering).
Also, anybody recommend Video Guys as a supplier?
    Thanks for the help.

How does on-board OHCI strike you? It’s free and does not give you the headaches that Matrox gives you. If you don’t have on-board OHCI, get a $ 29-39 board.

    Forget about Matrox.

[Kevin Herrin] “OHCI? Not sure what that is.”

OHCI is FireWire(iLink,IEEE1394), its a high speed serial that most camcorders have to use to connect to the computer, You didn’t give any particulars on your computer, in alot of cases the money spend on a card like the RTX could be spent on up grading the computer.

if you like realtime effects output to your external monitor i am using the rtx100 and its great as long as you follow there specs i have never had a problem
if thats not for you then firewire 1394 is the way to go for you vtr or camera but prem effetcs are not real time even with the the trx card

    cheers

While in general some people were reasonably content with the RT.X100 / PP 1.5 combo, most reactions now with PP 2.0 are not so favourable. If you use 2.0, my advise is to forget about Matrox.

[robertbec] “its great as long as you follow there specs”

Thats the catch, we don’t know what machine he’s tying to put it in, and like Harm says 2.0 doesn’t actually work the best with that card right now, having been through this type of scenario with another manuf waiting to get things fixed which never got resolved, I’ll take horsepower first.

Kind of a gross overgeneralization about the RTX 100, I used it without any problems at all. I now use the RTX2 and Axio with PPro 2.0 and would recommend them without hesitation.
Different strokes for different folks . . .

The RTX100 has alot of caveats as far as the system configuration goes and we don’t know what his system is, so I would not personally tell a person that sure install the card.
