Video with text animation questions from a beginner!
Hi all,
I’m new to using After Effects and I’m trying to teach myself how to make those simple information text videos which are so popular with news outlets on social media these days (not overly advanced stuff I’m sure!). I had a couple of questions for things I’m currently stuck on, if someone could even direct me to the right tutorial, your help would be extremely appreciated ☺
1) I can’t find a preset to make text appear word by word on After Effects as it does in this video:

Does anyone know how this effect was achieved? Are they using different text layers for each word? Or am I missing some easier solution (most likely!)?
2) I’m also trying to learn how to animate background layers with text as seen in the below video:
Does anyone know how this effect was achieved? I can animate text, but I’m just not sure how to make sure the background layer animates with it!

Hi Harry. As always there are several ways of doing these. The first would probably use Text Animators (the text is typed in and then the Animators affect how it is displayed). The colored backgrounds could be shape layers which again can be animated within the layer’s settings (or you could use solids and masks).
If this makes no sense then, as Dave says, you will need to do some basics tutorials. These are very, very old but are short and will give you a general idea:

Then, here on Creativecow, look up the Shape Layer and the Text Animator tutorials by Robert Devis (Devis not Davis) which are excellent.
