Hi everbody, Just wanted to say that any help would be usefull because I am desperate.

I made this video for a friend. Imported in Video Vegas, edit it, Rendered it. And everything worked.

However when he asked me to copy the imported files, so he could have a look at that trouble began.

I can import the files into Video Vegas, However if i try to play the video files, only the sound will not work.

If i play it with Quicktime, Sounds does workm But the quality of the video is really bad.

I just can’t play the raw material with sound! My friend want’s to re-edit some stuff, and if he imports it in Windows Movie Maker, the sound won’t work as well.

Only in Video Vegas. Normally I don’t have this problem and I have no idea what to do, to get the files working.

    Thanks for any help!

What version of Vegas are you using?
What format are the files you’re trying to import?
If they’re from a DVD, use the File > Import > DVD Camcorder Disc option.
Even though this was originally designed for miniDVD discs, it works with full size DVDs as well.

I use Video Vegas 7.0 , the files that I imported are just from a Sony DV camera, I used the normal DV import function in Vegas.

It is weird because the sound works in Video Vegas, but if I play the imported Raw file, it won’t have sound in Windows media player ( &Classic), VLC doesn’t provide sound, and also Windows movie Maker don’t give sounds, only Quicktime, but the video quality is really bad in Quicktime.

    Thanks for your help already!

Something is wrong here and, for whatever reason (lack of sleep on my part!!), some of your statements are confusing me.

I made this video for a friend. Imported in Video Vegas,…

So you captured the source material yourself, right?
We are talking about DV-AVI, right?

    Rendered it. And everything worked.

    You made a DVD, right?

However when he asked me to copy the imported files, so he could have a look at that trouble began.
I can import the files into Video Vegas,…

Do you mean copy the source files?
If so, you don’t need Vegas to do that.
Just burn them to a CD or DVD or copy them to a hard drive.

Maybe I wasn’t clear indeed, I’ll tell you exactly what I’m trying to achieve.

We are indeed talking about DV-AVI files. I imported it in Vegas edited and made the film. Everything was fine then. The source files, the DV-AVI files don’t have sound in player, except in quicktime and vegas.

My friend wants the source material because he want’s to make his own version. However I had 3 tapes, so I thought it would have been easier if I just copied it on a hard drive in stead of burning it on DVD’s.

I just found out the original source material has the same problem. No sound in any player except Quicktime. However I made a succesfull Montage with the material in Vegas. I never experienced anything like this….:S

Is it possible that there’s something flaky with your computer?
Have you tried giving even one of your files to you r friend to see if they play OK for him?
Have you tried capturing from a completely different set of tapes to see if you still have the problem?
What camera was the material shot with?
Is this NTSC or PAL footage?
    ==================================

My computer is fine I guess, the same problems occurs on my laptop and on the computer 0f my friend.

I haven’t tried to capture from a different set of tapes. You mean another project? Just to see how it works?
The video was shot with a Sony DV Cam dsr-pdx10p in PAL.

    hope this helps…

    thanks!

I vaguely recall reading in a Vegas forum somewhere about audio issues with PAL source material if you captured using the Capture Tape method.
If there wasn’t clean stable video at the very beginning of the tape, it would mess the capture up.
For some strange reason, this issue seems to be more prevalent in the PAL world than the NTSC world.
This is why I suggested trying to capture from a different tape to see if the problem persists.
BTW, it’s always a good idea to have clean stable video on screen before you hit the Capture button.

I am having a similar issue with Vegas 8 not recognising sound from a Quicktime Mov file.

I can solve the issue with the bad quality picture though. This is because Quicktime has a ‘preview’ mode for DV files. You can go into the Quicktime Player preferences and change this by going to the General tab and ticking “Use High Quality Settinag When Available”
