  • Video unrendered when adding Audio filter

I have encountered a strange problem. I dragged a sequence (A) into a new sequence (B), creating a nested clip (C) in the new timeline. Then I added a video effect to the whole clip (C) and rendered that.
The next day, I opened the original sequence (A) and added an audio filter to some audio clips. When I looked at the nested clip (C) in the other timeline (B), the rendered video over the audio where I added an audio filter had become unrendered.
    Question 1:
I thought that when I create a nested sequence in this way, the new timeline is not linked to the original. But it seems it is. Is this correct and can it be avoided somehow?
    Question 2:
Why on earth would the video become unrendered when I add an audio filter? Especially since the audio I added the filter to was not linked to any video (it was and has always been audio only clips). If the whole nested clip had become unrendered, I might have understood this. But now it only marks those spots where the audio has been changed. If it can keep track of exactly where I have added an audio filter, it shouldn’t be so hard to note that it is only audio and not video that has been changed.

This is not a critical problem for me, but I am curious to know if anyone understands this.

If you nest a clip, and change the nested clip, you’ll unrender it if the nested clip is what was rendered. Instead, render a sequence before you nest it, add those audio filters to it, and not to the nest. You’ll find it keeps it’s renders better I think.

If you need to add the same filter to a lot of clips, just add it to one, change it’s parameters, then select multiple clips and add that modified filter to them en masse. There are reasons to nest always but in general, I really think it’s easier to NOT nest if it can be avoided.
