I’m trying to apply a video transition to a small bubble that I have alpha-channeled over another track. Is there a way to make the transition only change the alpha element rather than the whole frame? I’m trying to make my bubble pop with a dip to black, but when I apply the transition, it dips the whole frame.

Also, can I make the dip to black instead dip to another color, like a dip to white? I’d like to create a 2-3 frame dip to white (a flash frame).

    Thanks!

What happens if you keyframe the opacity such that the bubble fades out?

    Yes.
    a) Create a new color matte (File > New > Color Matte)
    b) Place this color matte over the area you want to “flash”
    c) Reduce the duration to about a second.
    d) Use the opacity controls to reveal the color matte for about 13 frames, and reduce the opacity during the last 13 frames.

After playing with it for a while, I think the only way to do what I’m trying to do is in AE where we created the bubble. I can dissolve or wipe the bubble in PPro with no problem, but the center of the effect is always the center of the full video frame…which makes sense.

Thanks for the step-by-step on dip to color!
