Video suddenly not there..Please Help!
I have various video clips taken from DVD’s of my own projects that I imported into Premiere 6.5 to edit together last summer. I used a VOB to AVI program and they worked fine for me until just this week when I went to update the cuts with new footage. For some unknown reason the video that was once there is not showing in the cuts or even when I open the individual clips. To my knowledge nothing has changed with the way I’m doing this. The time code is there, but no video and when I try to close the clips, Premiere locks up and I have to CTRL ALT DEL to get it to close.
I’m running on a Pentium 4 2.8ghz, 1 GB RAM, BFG NVidia 512mb GeForce 7300GT, all the footage is on a SimpleTech 160GB External drive.

Can you open the clips in a standalone player, like windows media or QuickTime?
Is premiere indicating that the media files are no longer linked?
You may have a corrupted project file. Try creating a new project, than import the old project.

I did create a new project and imported the other but that didn’t work either.
The clips will not play in WMP, but the clips located in the “Adobe Premiere Preview Files” folder associated with each cut will play in WMP and Premiere. I am able to import these Preview files into the timeline and they work fine, but of course these clips are broken up and not labeled and not directly a part of the edit. This seems to be the only way I can get Premiere to recognize the footage.
FYI…. I use DGindex and DGVfapi to grab the VOB and then “trick” the file into an AVI for Premiere to cut with. DGIndex splits the VOB into a .wav and .d2v and then DGVfapi turns the .d2v into an AVI file. This process has worked with dozens or hours of footage from DVD’s for me without problems…until now!

I dunno.. this doesn’t sound too good.
A VOB is a multiplexed MPEG-2 simply renamed as .VOB. That is to say, you can simply change the file extension of a .VOB to .MPG – but that’s of no use, I just thought I’d share.
It sounds like your solution has presented itself, however ugly, to use the preview files.
You might be better off decompressing your source and reediting if the project isn’t too complicated.In the future I’d recommend you decompress the VOBs to Uncompressed AVI/PCM Audio, before import. I use AVS Video Converter to decompress all video files that are in a delivery format.
