    Tony,

Thanks for the replies to my questions.

Hmm. Running out of suggestions myself. The bottom line is that the Mac Pro might not be up to the task. of scaling your 720p to 1080p without visual glitches. If the new video card is working for you then obviously that’s the way to go for now.

Have you run Activity Monitor and viewed All processes by Kind and by %CPU just to make sure that you don’t have anything in there that is slowing down the computer?

I gather that you need stutterless video playback since you are recording from your FCP playback?

I must be getting old: I can remember editing offline SD at 320×240 in FCP.

We looked through all the processes in Activity Monitor and nothing was out of the ordinary. The stutterness is not an issue laying off to tape (we export a self contained file and use that) but an issue when editing with the clients and having it drop frames constantly. Very annoying. And having the Canvas window Overlays on makes it stutter even with the new graphics card. I’m just curious if anyone else who is editing 1080p with Final Cut is having issues.

Funny you ask! I have 3 Macpros all set up the same way. The new 12 core is handling the SAME footage on the SAME hard drive the SAME way you are describing. I shot footage with my varicam and 5D. The DSLR footage is causing huge problems. It stutters like hell in the VIEWER window only. The canvas is fine. I also get out of memory warnings. Crashes. Mostly when I am applying Magic Bullet effects and Twixtor. It is like I am using FCP Version 1.

    HERE IS THE KICKER:

APPLE SENT ANOTHER 12 CORE AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED WTH THEIR STOCK DRIVE IAND FCP CLEAN INSTALL. WHY?????

I have been an apple user for over 15 years, Final Cut pro user since the beginning. This HAS to be a hardware issue since my other macs are acting okay with NO JUDDER in the viewer window with the same footage and very little crashes.

    HELP!!!!

I have a similar problem, and fixed it replacing the NVIDIA GT120 with a newer ATI Radeon.
