  • Video Stretched – bars on sides – I’ve tried everything

    Hello.

I am using Final Cut Pro 6.

The raw footage from my HMC40 is 1280×720 and these open up great in QT correctly and there are no bars anywhere – the info on “get info” just says 1280×720.

After editing in FCP, Sequence settings are the following:

    1280×720
Pixel aspect- NTSC DV 720×480 – ANAMORPHIC IS CHECKED!
    Compressor h.264

The “canvas” in FCP seems to fit it correctly – except it has bars on the left and right – but the aspect of the video looks fine.

When exporting – for example using “quicktime conversion” – format- quicktime movie – the dimensions (current) in the settings box automatically hits 470×198 as compressor native. Huh?

Doing all the changes to make it match my sequence – NTSC 720×480, the video is exported into a stretched vertically video and a “box” shape video with giant bars on the left and right.

Could someone please help me? I’ve spent weeks on this video and I can’t figure this out – I have about 12 different exports using different settings and they ALL have the bars on the sides with stretched vertically video 🙁

I am begging for help here.

    Thanks!
    Joey

Anamorphic should never be checked when working in HD. That setting is for SD widescreen only. You’ve graduated now, so keep this in mind permanently.

1280 x 720 is ALWAYS Square pixels and NEVER Anamorphic.
Your sequence pixels are NTSC and the sequence Anamorphic.
    Change that.

    HI joey,
to save confusion, if i am unsure about the correct sequence settings, i create a new blank sequence(shift+n) and then drag a clip into it. It will ask ask you if you want to change your sequence settings to match the clip and voila, you should get a timeline with correct aspect ratio and codec applied.

You can then change you current sequences to match.

You will also know that you have something wrong if you have a green line above your clip on the timeline. No green line and you have the settings correct. ANy shade of green (or red/orange) and the clip settings dont match the sequence settings and you need to render (unless it plays realtime)

    cheers
