Video Stops Playing but Audio Eventually Continues

Every time I play the time line – rendered and all – the video and audio starts to sputter after about 7 seconds then stops all together. Then the audio picks up again and continues to play with no video. I have to stop and start it and it’ll play smooth for another 7 seconds.
I formatted and restored from time-machine to rid the problem. It fixed it for a little while but it eventually started up again. It is a relatively big project with lots of sequences – no nests though.
