I’m creating a series of videos for a client to display on 1920X 1080 monitors at a trade show. The video footage that I’m editing from is only 720 X 486 SD. My FCPX project timeline is 1920X1080.

With FCP7, the smaller video clips would just fit into the frame much smaller. The size would be reported as 50% .However FCP X just automatically fills the screen, which is something I don’t want to happen. Is there a way in preferences that I can keep the original video size within the 1920 X 1080 project? How would I do this?

    Thanks.

I don’t believe that it can be changed in preferences. You could highlight all of the offending clips in the browser then open the inspector window and change spatial conform to ‘none’.

I just submitted feedback to Apple requesting that they add a preferences item allowing users to set the default spatial conform option. Having it default to ‘Fit’ has always been a nuisance for many of the projects that I do.
