  • video scopes gone and cursor spazzing out

Okay, I am having a collection of problems. First, let me say I did a clean install last week. (erase and install) I was due and having some strange FCP related problems. Most were cured, but two big ones have come back.

    1. My video scopes are not working. (tool bench version) They were working. If I set it to ‘viewer’ or ‘current frame’ all I get is a blank set of scopes. (The way they look when you open a new project and have black/slug going to them.) I still have the scales, but no readings. Restarting my system (not FCP) will bring them back.

    2. My cursor is spazzing out. When I play video OR just park the cursor on the timeline the black part in the center flashes. Almost like it is rendering or something. Then, when I have a tool selected, like the roll edit tool, it constantly flashes between the arrow tool and the roll edit tool. I know the arrow tool will automatically change types when it hovers over an edit, but this is different. It’s much more spastic. You can’t even work with it. And again, and full system restart solves the problem for a time.

Could be a heat related hardware problem. Run the hardware test disk that came with your computer… see if it finds something wrong.

Do you have a non apple mouse or keyboard? Sounds like buttons are getting pushed mysteriously. Switch to Apple Keyboard and mouse and see if that does anything for you, or, make sure you have installed the latest drivers for your peripherals. I would definitely start unplugging stuff to see if it has any bearing. Unplug one thing at time and see if it wigs out. If it does, you know it’s not that and unplug the next thing.

Also, do as Jerry suggested and run your hardware test.
