For years I’ve been using CS3 (on Mac) with progressive HD h.264 source material (sometimes some Apple Intermediate Codec too), setting up custom projects choosing Desktop, and AIC as the Video Rendering setting, hoping it was a suitable setting.
I tend to use Export Video to make an AIC or H.264 master, and sometimes use AME to export to h.264 mp4.
Can anyone tell me if a different choice of codec for video rendering settings would give me:
    i) Faster/smoother timeline pereformance
    ii) Better quality of output
iii) Faster Movie export and AME export?

Any other pitfalls, like my disk running out of space due to massive render files?

I tried some tests today, but they were somewhat inconclusive.
    Thanks everyone.
