I’m working with After Effects, and I’m using my camcorder that is set to automatic for teh shutter speed. Unfortunately the recording causes bluriness, thus not allowing me to create good quality editing.

My camcorder supports 1/2000, but I don’t have enough light when recording indoors.

What shutter speed would you recommend for recording good footage for editing, and what type of lighting would you recommend using? Would 1000W halogen work or be enough when using a high shutter speed?

Your information is soo appreciated. Thansk!

    Hi,

Actually I’m trying to get better quality video so I have less motion blur when doing some work in After Effects. I’ve been setting my camera at auto (not wise I know) and when doing so, I get a lot of motion blur when doing frame by frame stuff.

    Any recommendations?

Ok…then maybe it’s just a question of lighting then, cause I was recording with regular bedroom lighting… Maybe I’ll have better quality footage if I get some halogen lights??

However maybe I should just set it to automatic shutter speed?

Faster shutter speeds can certainly help to reduce motion blur. However, the faster the shutter speed, the more light you’ll need.

I often shoot with a fast shutter speed (particularly when the scene involves rapid movements) to minimize motion blur. The resulting footage is cleaner for rotoscoping and editing, and motion blur (if desired) can easily be added later.

Experiment with different shutter speeds and lighting levels, until you get a result you’re happy with.
