  • Video quality playback when using layers

I’ve recently comepleted a full software upgrade. I’ve noticed in playback, both in the FCP canvas and out to a monitor via Blackmagic, that when I am using layers such as a .mov element from LiveType, there is a noticeable difference in quality on the underlying picture (image track 1) between when other image tracks are playing at the same time and when it is by itself. It reminds me of the old optical printer transitions you’d see in films where the image quality changes on a shot from before the transition to when it starts.

I will say that when I nest the sequence, I don’t notice it. So I may have already found my solution. But I bring it up here because I don’t want any surprises when I do my final print to video.

    Here’s my specs:
    OS X 10.4
    FCP 5.0.1
    Dual 1.42 GHz G4

    Thanks!
    -Joe

You mean between something that’s rendered and something that isn’t? That’s normal. What’s it look like when it’s rendered? What are your real time render settings? They’ve changed enormously since 4.x.

It’s noticeable after rendering. Settings are full quality/100%. I’m editing photo JPEG from Betacam SP source video.

However, Iike I said, it is NOT noticeable if I nest the sequence. Not sure what’s up.
