    Hello –

I have a video that I’m trying to edit using Final Cut Pro. Whenever I add it to the timeline, the video quality drops, almost in half. I’m looking for some help to troubleshoot this so that I can maintain the size of the video while adding audio.

    Can someone help?

    Thanks,

What codec, pixel size and frame rate is the original? What are your sequence settings. Does a red or green render bar appear when you place a clip in the timeline?

How are you monitoring the image? (ie viewer, external monitoring, I/O cards like Kona or Decklink)

If render bars appear, have you rendered the footage to view it?

Hey Tony, Just check near the timeline for a little pill shaped object that says RT and click on that to set a new resolution setting for your viewer. You should make sure that full quality is checked. Hope that helps. STU

I know alot….but not as much as the other guy.

Are you using an external monitor being fed by something like an IoHD, Kona, BlackMagic card, Matrox MXO or even firewire to a DV deck?

If you are simply looking at the FCP Canvas, this is normal, that image is degraded. You MUST monitor your video externally.
