Many times there are 2 things that can mess up your preview. One is all the stuff thats running in the background of windows especially if that computer is set up to go online. Take it off line and in particular shut down your antivirus program. Turn it back on before you put the machine back on line of course. The other thing is what kind of FX do you have on the clips? If you’ve got MB on any the machine will choke on it. Median is another one. There are some video FX that just take lots of resources to work and it sounds like this MIGHT be the problem. But then again what do I know 😉

when im previewing hdv footage, my processor gets up to the 60’s. i dont have an antivirus program. i dont have any fx on the clips either. i know how to build dynamic ram preview, but shouldnt it load the clips to ram automatically? i think thats kinda wierd.

Sorry but no. That’s just the way Vegas works. You have to build a new dynamic ram preview each time you want to do it.

Well… it sort of does. If you create a loop region (small enough area for the ram preview to hold), and let it play, it will gradually do so.

Are you editing the HD-AVI files? It sounds like you might be using the Native M2T files… The M2T files are larger and tend to do what you’re talking about..
