I shot 720p (native) with an hvx200. I see that Final Cut has an option to playback “dvcpro hd (720p60) (1280x 720) or 1080i60 (1920 x 1080) but I can’t seem to get the hvx200 to recognize the signal over firewire. I am able to play my 720p footage from the camera to my HDTV, but I have to set the output to 1080i.
So how does one send out those signals from Final Cut to an HDTV???

    thanks nick

With an HD output card such as the Blackmagic Kona or Intensity:

Also do yourself a huge favor and don’t mess with the settings. Use the FCP Easy Setups for DVCPROHD and life will be a piece of cake.

That would be the AJA Kona

Intensity does not work with a P-native DVCProHD footage. Only P.

Final Cut doesn’t seem to have a 720 output option anyway– native or otherwise. So I think the computer generates 1080i anyway. Is this true?

I personally can’t recommend the Matrox. Their tech support on the Mac is pretty spotty and I’ve personally seen this unit overheat and simply refuse to function after 6 hours in use. Not good….
