Video Output Monitor Question
I had a few questions before I purchased a second display monitor to be used as an external video output. I was reading several other posts that said After Effects may only recognize certain video cards that are capable of being used for external monitors. Currently, I’m running one ViewSonic VX1932mw high definition monitor on an ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics card. If I wanted to purchase a second monitor, the same as the first, to be connected to the same graphics card, what limitations would I likely run in to, if any? Would this setup work? Should I use a different method?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Do you want to see video or merely extend your desktop? That viewsonic is a computer display, isn’t it? You want a video monitor to view video? You’ll need a card or other breakout device that has composite, component, or hdmi outputs and the appropriately high quality monitor.

Yes, it would be to view the video/ram previews, etc. Not to extend my desktop. The viewsonic is an HD video display, yes, but I was just under the assumption I could use a second monitor to output the video. So you’re saying that I should get a different card with the selective outputs you stated?

Look on http://www.blackmagic-design.com and see if any of their products offer what you’re after.
Then if that IS the case and you need to reference BROADCAST work then you need to think about getting a reference grade CRT monitor to use with one of the Decklink/Multibridge cards. TV bay is a good place to pick one up secondhand, cos as far as I know you can’t buy them new anymore….but if you need to see NTSC/PAL colours and field jitter correctly there is no other solution…Unless you’ve got several thousand to spend on an LED professional monitor.
