    Hi,

Our production company owns two XDCAM EX PMW-EX1, and we are starting the production of a new TV show. We need a way to mix video (switcher) to be used with these two cameras, but in HD. What I have found on the internet is way to expensive (us $8000 and up). Does anyone know an affordable HD video mixer? Or any affordable solution for mixing two live video streams (maybe through software)?

The lowest I see for HD-SDI is about $6000

Unless your show is live, why not just edit in post. You can do this in Final Cut Pro in multicam mode and create the edit in real time and then tweak as needed. Most professional NLEs have some sort of multicam mode now.

When you’re using $6000 cameras plus other gear, $6000 isn’t a lot of money for a switcher.

Here at Kato Video Productions we produce a dirt racing show weekly now that airs on 4 TV stations with an EX-3,Ex-1 and a couple of incar cameras and complete our multicam edit in Grassvalley/Edius. We do not have a production truck or a switcher…. Gorilla video style but it works for us.

    Good luck

Yes, most modern NLEs have multicam functions that work in real time. In addition it makes tweaking the edits easy.

There’s little reason for live mixer unless you are broadcasting live or need to hand someone a switched master immediately after the event.

I wish OP would explain intent. I wish OP would explain the objection to the price he notes (and I found one lower) given the price of the gear he’s using.
