Do you loose quality when you mix down a sequence?
I have a 30 sec spot DVCPRO HD 720p 23.976. If I consolidate the original media there is 930 MB of media but if I mix the sequence down first then consolidate there is only 195 MB. But if I export a QT of the original and the mixed down, they are the exact size.

    Thank you for the time,
    Brad

When you consolidate, are you adding handles? That would give you a lot more media.

When you mixdown, what resolution are you selecting?

I was consolidating with 60 frame handles, so that is why the file size was so big. I just consolidated with no handles and the file size is 193 MB, almost the same. That would lead me to believe that the quality is nearly the same between the original and the mixdown, but it has been compressed one extra time. I have DVCPRO HD selected for everything, the footage is DVCPRO HD brought in off P2 cards so I keep everything the same so I don’t have to transcode before outputting to tape when it is needed.

    Have a great day,
    Brad
