Video Levels drop down when Title is up?
Posted by Jeffrey Stevens on February 5, 2008 at 3:13 pmWorking in Premiere 6.5 – Whenever I fade up a title, the video level drops down underneath the title and then the video level goes back to normal after the Title fades out. Not sure what is causing it? Please help.

February 5, 2008 at 5:17 pmGenerally, you’ll have a video layer – say, on layer 1. Than, a title on layer 2. You would than enable the opacity keyframes for the title layer and adjust accordingly (the button is diagonal down/right from the eyeball icon next to the track name).
Are your titles ‘Premiere’ titles, a PRTL file, or were they generated in some other way?
It sounds like the background of the title is holding a solid of some sort. Do you have any effects applied to the title layer?Vince

February 5, 2008 at 8:23 pmI am in the A-B mode of editing. I have the Video overlapped on Layer 1 in the A and B with transitions in the middle. The Titles are on Layer 2. Not sure what else to do.

February 5, 2008 at 10:24 pmSorry, I’ve never used 6.5. The interface is a little different.
It looks like you need to click the triangle drop-down to access the layer opacity button on the title layer. Than use the Pen Tool to add keyframes to the rubberband in the title clip, to control the opacity levels. But this is a guess as I don’t know how Premiere 6.5 handles titles.
Here’s a tut I found for 6.5…
1-Place your white text (black background) in video track 2. I use Premiers titler (F9) to create the text. Make your text big and bold to be able to see the video underlying it.
2-Now place your motion video in video track 1.
3-Hit your SHIFT F-10 key to open your effects control window. Select VIDEO EFFECTS/KEYING/TRACKMATTE. Drag TRACKMATTE to your video in video track 1.
4-Click your video in track 1, select WINDOW/EFFECT CONTROL and drop down your VIDEO EFFECTS for TRACKMATTE. Set the MATTE to video track 2.
5-Punch out (click on it) the eyeball to the left of video track 2.
6-Scrub your timeline to see the effect. If either of these ideas don’t work, maybe start a new thread here or in the Premiere Pro forum…
Subject: Title Opacity/Transparency in Premiere 6.5, or something.
Be sure to note the format of the titles in the thread – are they Premiere titles, Photoshop titles, or whatever.Vince
