I pop out an mp4/h.264 out of AME with 2 pass VBR target of 2kb/s and max of 6kb/s. Video looks good. But when I look at VLC media information>statistics>Input bitrate, I see that at one point it went up to about 6.2kb/s. So what is up with this max bitrate? Is it not really a max?

    Thoughts?

Have any of you seen this before?

Your audio data rate is included in the final output. Look at what your audio data rate is which is likely the discrepancy. The VBR rate you set only pertains to the video portion.
