  • Video in Viewer and Canvas appear darker than the source clip

Posted by Marc Marriott on November 11, 2010 at 2:16 am

The video played in the viewer and also in the canvas is dark and much warmer than my original source clips. Is does not seem to be a monitor setting issue because when I play the clips on the same monitor outside of FCP, they look fine as they were shot.

Also, if I output a video sequence and play that clip, the video appears normal.

I’m using footage that was shot with the Canon 5D and compressed as Apple Pro Res 422.

    Very strange.

I’ve called a few people and looked all over different forums, but I can’t find any reason why this is happening. I’ve also tried deleting my FCP preferences and restarting. Still have the same issue.

    Thanks!

Hi I had the same problem after 10.6.5 update, clip viewer and canvas very dark and warm, exported clips and the original captures OK in quicktime player.
Tried deleting the prefs, no change and then I noticed in system preferences/display the display profile had switched from PAL/Secam to another generic profile, switching back solved the problem
    Hope this helps Jez
