I need to be able to capture video game footage from a xbox 360 in HD. Has anyone out there done this and how? I have a kona LH and a Kona 3 card. aja tells me that because the 360 system does not have smpte it can’t be done. I believe it can be. I just need someone out there to confirm this. Any converters or equipment I need to know about to get this done? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried it? I’m sure there’s some sort of copy protection on there.

Why do you need to capture copyrighted video game material to your editing system? Are you the owner of the copyrights on the game and all content?

There will most likely be copy protection on the disc and playback which will show up in FCP and will not be allowed to be captured.

Man – you guys aren’t vey helpful. As somebody who has done a done of work for Sony Playstation, EA, Sega, etc. I am constantly having to capture game footage for their projects (what – you think they’ll do it for you??), so maybe give this guy the benefit of the doubt.

I wish I could help you out – we’ve never had trouble w/ a PS2 or an XBox – and we use a framesync for PC. Can’t you just do some kind of live capture? Seems odd this can’t be done. (having just got an LHe a couple of weeks ago I don’t know much about it yet)

Take the analog HD Y Pb Pr out of the XBox 360, and go into a AJA HD10A.
Take the HD-SDI Out of the HD10A, and go right into your Kona 2 or Kona 3 (or HD input of LHe). This will work.

Have you managed to figure this out? We are a game developer and are considering a very similar Kona rig to capture Xbox360 footage.

Why will the LH not capture it analog through the component input? You said “aja” will not accept without SMPTE, do you ment a tech rep at aja or and error message?

I work with a BIG game developer, and I cannot directly comment on the LH, as we use the Kona 2. But we take the HD Y Pb Pr off the game, go thru a AJA HD10A to convert to HD-SDI, and this goes into the Kona 2 HD input, as well as an AVID DS system, and AVID Adrenaline HD, with NO PROBLEMS. I will bet money that no one at AJA said anything about not having “SMPTE” whatever that means in relation to this issue. SMPTE standard, SMPTE Time Code, SMPTE what ?

    Hey all,
Thanks to those who were helpful. The hd10a worked. It is too bad you can’t go directly from the systems to the card. I think aja knows about this but they make you buy the converter. Anyway all is good and we are in business.
