is there a tutorial for putting video up on the web? im building a website, and i want to put up a bunch of videos, with at least two sizes for each. the web hoster im using has a built in video to flash video thing, but the quality its quite horrible.
so ive decided to use quicktime. and im using wide screen

basically i want to know, what are some typical wide screen video resolutions for small, med, large

    maybe suggested video filters (interlaced?)

what format and quality setting is best (h.264? divx?)

and whats a typical video length to file size ratio for them?

    thanks
    cade

    Cade,

Just use the presets in compressor. Most of thinking has already been done for you. For example, if you select the Web Streaming (Quicktime 7 Compatible) you will see 5 different versions are available. The smallest (H264 100kps) and the largest (H264 LAN Streaming) will probably not be of great value, leaving the three remaining. Try them out and see what you get…

BTW, a small tip is to select ALL (all five presets), then use the “-” sign to delete the two presets you won’t be using.

And, go through the settings on each preset and make sure deinterlace is selected for each one. Then submit and it will batch encode all three.

the smallest is 40kbps, should i have that for dial-up, or use 100kpbs?

Its really tiny… I say, if they can’t deal with 100mbs they’re not worth knowing… This is 2007 after all.

    so maybe 100, 300 and 800?
    800mbps sounds pretty big…

Pretty much 100 and 300 are what most peeps use, but 800 is getting certainly viable for those with broadband.
