    Happy New Year Everyone,
I videotape a lot of sports which causes me to have literally thousands of video files. The files come off of the camcorder named by number. Example 00001, 00002, etc. I’m looking for a way to rename (before I bring into Vegas) the video files so I don’t have duplicate file names when I bring them into Vegas. Any suggestions of ways to do this?

    Thanks
    Dave P.

I use IrfanView (it’s quick, free and a great utility) to do my batch file renaming.
It also does a lot of photo processing and batch resizing but you can experiment with that at your convenience.
I do this periodically when I get several games from the athletic department at the college I work for.
A typical weekend may involve several basketball and volleyball games for both men and women.
I sort things by date into individual folders, then sport and finally men or women and then rename them as desired.
    For example, 2013-01-07-basketball-men-game-1.
It makes the final renders MUCH easier to do as well as keeping things organized for any future needs.

I just use windows7 to rename all my files before I put them in Vegas. Windows allows me to view thumbnails of the each video file. I’m just careful to give them a name that I won’t repeat somewhere else down the road.
