    Hello,

I am planning to build a new video editing rig. Can some please suggest me a good motherboard. I am planning to buy non over clocked version(i7 -4770) as I am not much into overclocking side.

Question: Does overclocking really help in video editing world? I heard of OCing on the gaming side.

My video editing needs – Family and wedding using H.264(.mts files) footage from sony/panasonic cameras.

    Thanks
    Vinod

You’ll see more benefits from RAM or using an Adobe certified GPU than from over-clocking your processor. Most of the playback and effects happen using the GPU. I would spend more of my money on GPU and RAM.

    Thanks Ryan.

Any idea about the new Haswell procs for video editing. Are they good or should I have to wait for any new series? I have been doing my research about Haswell and many are mentioning they are for mobile not for heavy workloads.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks

Well it depends on what Haswell chip you buy as to the performance for post-production. Haswell does seem to be more aimed at the mobile market. However, Intel is moving most of its production line to these chips as they are the latest and greatest. So I would expect they should perform well.

Like I said though, you’ll see a majority of your playback and processing gains via increased RAM and a certified, high-powered GPU.
