Here’s my problem: Video looks good when played by Adobe Bridge, Windows Media Player, etc. However, when I import the same footage into Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, it looks very dark in the Program window. Very dark. Same with After Effects. So which version of my video is correct–the one that looks fine in Bridge, WMP, etc., or the dark, invisible version as seen in the comp window (AE), Program Monitor (PP2)? Can I adjust the gamma of these “monitors” without applying effects to my footage?

What format is your source video. Is a delivery codec or an editing codec.
I’d try decompressing the source material, prior to editing. Than, correct the video if necessary.
I might argue that what you see in PP or AE is the more ‘correct’ display.
Aside from monitor calibration, I don’t believe there is a way to adjust the gamut of the Premiere/AE monitor.
