Video compositing 101
Hi,
I’ve looked everywhere for tips on how to composite c4d and video without success.
I have a nice bit of video that I’ve tracked using Syntheyes. I’ve imported the exported Syntheyes data into C4d and it all looks good, I’ve dropped in a few 4d objects as a test and I’m ready to get to work.
But….
I have no idea how to bring in and treat my video background. Naturally I need to have this in my scene so that I can see how the objects interact with my video. Of course my final composite will take place in AE, I just need to be able to see the video as I’m building in C4d
Can anyone point me to some decent tutorials on the subject?

Hi,
Cineversity is the greatest resource for C4D tutorials, although most of the videos require a membership (which is definitely worth the money). Also, I would suggest stopping by fxguide, as they have a bunch of great basic comping resources.

It’s pretty simple:
Create a Background Object in Cinema;
Create a new material and put your video in the color channel;
Once the video is loaded in the color channel, click on the file name there to access additional settings;
You should see an animation tab in the new settings — fill in the appropriate settings and click the calculate button;
In the material’s “scene” tab, check the “animate preview” box;
Drop the material on your Background Object.
Done!
