I have a few uncompressed mov files that I need to author on a DVD (not a BD-DVD). The mov files are High def 1920×1080 2d animations that were created in AE. The uncompressed files are too large for my computer to handle and it crashes when I try and import them into Encore to author the DVD. Any recommendations on the best codec to use to re-encode them so that they are a reasonably small enough size to work with while keeping optimal quality?

DVD spec only supports standard def MPEG 2 video

    How old is your system?

Its a 2010 Macbook Pro. So, encoding them as MPEG2 videos then pulling them into Encore would be the best?

Thats a newer system. Why is it unable to handle your HD footage? Whats do you mean by that? DVD is MPEG 2 only so anything you want to put on disc needs to be MPEG2 First. Use media encoder for that.
