I am having some strange playback issues and I am wondering about the internal structure of an encoded video…
I typically encode 100% I-Frame MPEG2 videos which by default places an I-frame at frame 0 and 1…
The video I am having issues with is 1% I-Frames and neither frame 0 or 1 are an I-Frame…
I use Adobe Media Encoder for final renders, settings of M and N frames to 1, GOP to 1, this gives me 100% I-frames which is perfect… The client has used Adobe After Effects for final renders and left the default M and N settings at 15 and 3 with a GOP of 15 resulting in a majority of frames being B and P.
My question is: does there need to be an I-Frame at the head of a video?
It seems to me that having to scan forward to frame 3 for an I-frame, then play frame 0 and 1 interpolated could cause issues??
I don’t know enough about the internal structure of encoded videos so here I am to ask for help!!
