    Hey,

I’m new to this forum, but after reading a number of posts here I feel like you’re a solid group to put my questions to.

I’m currently working for a very small production company that has had a sketchy footage catalog. For the last three and a half years everything has been edited in Vegas by just one person but now that it’s looking like things may expand to a larger team we are interested in building up a labeling and cataloging system. We think that it should be constructed with naming conventions that are logical and consistent regardless of the type of project. We have about 5 years worth of footage from a number of projects and right now there isn’t really any overall logic to the way that they’re named. Are there any resources out there for this or some sort of place to start?
Also, is there a good tool for creating a searchable database of the footage with the ability to see sample clips and such?

Thanks for any help you’re able to offer.

MOst folks I know come up with a naming convention that makes sense to them and their needs.

Some folks swear by (and some swear at it!!) the Media Manager option for Vegas.
I personally have no need for it so I can’t comment on it.
If you’ve never used it before, VASST has a training DVD called Media Manager Demystified that may help.
