Video Card for MAC for AE CS3 Usage
I recently purchased a mac pro with the basic specs. I want to increase my memory to about 4GB from 1GB that comes with it. The video card in the computer is a NVIDIA GeForce 7300.
Which video card should I purchase at a reasonable price to run AE CS3 the best that I can.
I shoot in HDV so I want to edit a smoothly as possible.
Other small questions:
What is a good memory size to have? (I’m going broke from purchasing the mac)

The GeForce 7300 should be more than enough for AE. Spend the money on more RAM if you can. Multi-processing in AE will benefit greatly from going to 6 or 8GB.

currently ae cs3 for mac doesn’t support opengl, so you won’t be benefiting from a better card in ae until that gets fixed.
even once that gets fixed, i agree with andrew, you’d still be better off and get better performance with more ram to feed the multiprocessing render engine (this can be enabled in ae preferences). you’d like to have at least 1gb per processing core… that’s in addition to what you’d like to have to opperate other software and the os.
after getting the ram, if you want to upgrade the card, you may have problems getting one. ati has had supply problems for there x1900 (i’m not even sure they have an after market card for the macpro) and i beleive the mac nvidia cards are only made by apply and may also not be available for after market purchase. besides, if ati can’t supply the midrange card, the next step would be the quadrofx 4500, and that’s a big $tep.
