video card alternatives
Posted by Phil Byrd on May 26, 2017 at 6:17 pmCan anyone share experience using alternative video cards with Avid Media Composer 8.x? Anyone using a “gaming” card with 4-8gb memory?

If your an Avid owner the key is to use certified hardware or you get the support run around.

May 27, 2017 at 1:41 amYa, Avid isn’t really using the video card the same way something like Resolve does, but having said that, i have 2 1070s and a 960 in my setup. Both models have at one time or another been the main card that Avid would have seen, and it hasn’t had any issues with either of them.
I’ve also used a quadro k4000 and 4800fx and couldn’t tell you that any of them made a difference for Avid.

June 8, 2017 at 9:10 amIve had avid for well over 25 years, and have never had any sort of “recommended” system, or video card in my home system, and have never had an issue.
That said, as my home machine is merely a home hobby, and my objection to the support contract, I have now dropped off the upgrade route so have stopped at v8. So newer versions might be more picky, but I doubt it.Peter
