I’m going to be purchasing a new video card for my Dell Latitude D800 laptop and Premiere Pro 1.5 system. I was told the Matrox RT X100 is a good one. But it’s expensive. Also, I was wondering if this card will fit and perform okay in my laptop. My laptop tends to heat up easily when I use it a lot for video. Will this new card cause it to heat more or less? Can I get a fast performance card that works well with Premiere Pro 1.5 that doesn’t cost quite as much?

    Thanks,
    miss2z

The RTX100 is made for desktop computers not laptops

Want to suggest a good card for the laptop that works well with Premiere? I’m looking for faster responses and less rendering times.

    Thanks,

    Miss2z,

Are you sure that your video card can be upgraded on your laptop? The majority of laptops out there don’t have that capability, but if it’s a new higher end machine it might…

I guess I’ll call Dell and find out.

Just FYI …. The RTX 100 by Matrox has been discontinued and will shortly no longer be supported. It’s been replaced by the Matrox RT.x2 card — which has more capabilities, but also costs about twice as much. And having seen both cards, I’m positive they won’t fit into any laptop.

I think you’re best bet for a lap top with Pre Pro is a simple firewire card and the fastest CPUS and Drives you can get.

    Best of luck!

I use laptops as well and unfortunately, at this time there aren’t any great video cards. I am using the nVidia 7800 256mb card and it works fine. However, take a look at the Precision series, as they usually ship with decent graphics cards.
