I just bought a new Toshiba I-7 computer and installed Vegas Pro 11. It seems to edit OK with existing captured footage. HOWEVER, when I try to capture footage, the capture window will “play” video smoothly from the camera (Sony A1-U) but when I try to capture video it captures 1 to 5 seconds at a time and saves these pieces as seperate clips. I have disabled “HD scene selection, so that is not the problem, I have adjusted buffer memory in the capture preferences from one end to the other and video qualty settings as well. Nothing seems to make a difference. Any suggestions?

    Thanks for your assistance.

I am not having such issues capturing from HDV tape into SVP11. I have only experienced such problems with drop outs on the tape, which causes a new clip to be generated each time.

One thing to check is your 1394 firewire driver which you might have to either check for updates for, or downgrade it to a legacy driver. My windows 7 system is using such a legacy driver as it was not recognising my cameras. I have noticed my laptop firewire completely drops out after 30 or so minutes in a live capture environment, but I have not bothered rolling back the driver as I was only experimenting.

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

    OK, I figured it out!!

In the default overall preferences the capture program was set to “internal” after changing to “external” capture program all is well.
