    Greetings,
Just started using Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum. After capturing video from my mini-dv camcorder, upon playback on the timeline, the video is not smooth. The audio is spot on but the video appears somewhat jerky. It’s not like it’s missing frames but does not look as flawless as the orginal tape.
    What gives?
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

Are you sure there weren’t any frames being dropped
    during the capture process?

    Steve,
According to the capture screen, all frames were captured successfully.
Could it be a rendering issue?

Well if you capture was without any dropped frames, the
jerky playback you are seeing is just probably normal for
your computer…remember the preview window is just for that..
previewing…its not for giving you a smooth playback
    like a normal media player.
When you render out your work and play it back in a media player
or back thru your camera, you will see that everything is smooth
as it should be…..if its not, then that would be an
    indication that something is wrong.
you can even run back the captured footage thru your camera
    to make sure.

Lee, if you have an underpowered computer AND have your Preview Window set to Best/Full, you will get exactly what you’re describing.
Set the Preview window to Preview/Auto and see if that helps.

    Hey Mike,
I changed my preview window from ‘Best’ to ‘Auto’ with a little bit of improvement. After rendering however, the sequence was flawless. I’m assuming the minor smoothness problem in the preview window is inherant to the software (Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum).
By the way, I’m working in standard defintion for the moment and using an Intel Pentium Dual Core processor running at 2.2 MHz with 4 gigs of memory. I have some new media arriving soon on a hard drive that was transferred from 16mm film to hi def files. I’d like to integrate these files into my project. Although Sony recommends a 2.8 Mhz processor for hi def, what can I expect using my 2.2?
