    Hi All,

I have been working to setup a media lab here at our school and I am unsure which way to go for a capture card. We have six machines that will be running ADobe Premiere Pro v2.0.

The machines are DellOptiplex 745MT, Intel Core Duo E6600. They have 4GB RAM (667MHz), are 2.40GHz, have a 256MB ATI Radeon X1300 PCI-Express x16 with dual DVI monitor support.

Any ideas as to which way to go would be fantastic.

    Thanks,
    Mark Kelly

It would be helpful to know what sort of material you are feeding into, and mastering out of, these machines…and what kind of production you’re doing.

What camcorders are you using and what tape formats do you need to support?
Do you need analog capture capability to support betaSP, etc.?

If you are doing DV or HDV a firewire card is sufficient, low order analog like S-Video/Composite can be done with a camcorder that has pass through or a converter to firewire, if you are going to do more exotic like HDMI, SDI or component you will need a capture card.

    Hi Tim,

Yes excellent point. We are working with mini DV capture mainly. Footage is edited and exported out for buring to DVD or web uploads. There may be a need to capture footage from VHS for conversion to digital or DVD but this isnt the norm. Would be interested in getting a card that could accomodate current and newer / future formats as opposed to getting something that meets current needs only.

    Thanks,
    Mark
