Video and Sound are out of sync
Hi all,
I’m just getting started with Premiere Pro CS5.5 and I’m having an issue with some imported footage.
I have 3 clips from my cell phone which I’ve imported into Premiere.
One of the clips has an issue with the sound and video being out of sync with each other despite them both being the same length.
The other 2 clips do not have this problem.
I watched all 3 of these clips on my phone, as well as on my computer in whatever default video viewing software and there are no problems with the video and audio being out of sync from the raw/recorded file.
But for some reason the clip, once imported into Premiere is exhibiting some problem with the audio and video being unsynced.
Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

EDIT:: Actually upon taking another look, it appears that ALL of these clips taken from my phone are out of sync once brought into Premiere. I have watched all of these clips in their raw format on my phone and on my computer outside of Premiere and there are absolutely no issues with the video and audio syncing up.
What is going on?

Clean your media cache is one suggestion. The other would be to use Media Encoder to render out the cell phone video into another format to see if that clears up the problem.

The phone codecs usually have some weird variable framerate going on so they will not work straight in Premiere.

Tero is right, phones often record at weird frame rates which don’t stay constant.
One thing to try is to make a new sequence that matches the settings of the video:
Drag the video file from the Project panel onto the new item button at the bottom of the project panel.

Premiere doesn’t have any variable frame rate sequences. Try transcoding the file to a different format.

Yeah so as it turns out your suggestions were right, though I managed to get that done prior to any replies through more research while waiting.
Premiere does not like variable frame rate that the camera records in so I used AVS video converter to convert them to WMV with static frame rate of 25 then loaded those into premiere and I am now able to edit them with no sync issues.

May I ask what setting you had on AVS converter? I’m using that myself but when I set it to WMV and 25fps it’s still out of sync.
For what it’s worth I’m recording at 1280×720 on a Samsung Galaxy S2 and my videos are playing correctly in windows media player but not in Premiere Pro. They have varying frame rates ranging between 20 and 30 fps. Any help you could offer would be very much appreciated. -
