  • Video and audio out of sync when imported into Vegas Pro 13

Posted by Hiran De silva on August 21, 2019 at 6:20 pm

I have some YouTube videos I have downloaded, that I use in my Vegas Pro project. I notice that the video and audio are slightly out of sync.
Is it possible to prevent it? (Correcting it is hit and miss, trial and error)

This happens also when I shoot some video on my iPhoneX. I correct it by clapping once like a clapperboard and adjusting in Vegas Pro. But this is of course not an option in the downloaded videos from YT.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Hiran

Un-group the video and the audio tracks (CTL-U). Move your video track to the right by 1 second to give you some play. Now move your audio track (left or right) until you get a acceptable match. Zooming in on audio track your track will help you get more fine tuning.

Once done, regroup your tracks (CTL-G), trim excess at both ends and (if you so desire) render the track so it stays matched.

    Cheers !

    Thank you Francois.
Hmmmm … I’ll need to use trial and error; because it’s hard to match this on my Preview Window. But I’ll nudge it bit by bit to get it right and Render small parts to check.

Any idea why this is happening? And how to prevent it?
    Thanks

    Hi Hiran

It must have had something to do with what you used in order to download from Youtube.

    Cheers !

But it happens on the videos shot on my iPhoneX also. That’s why I thought it must be Vegas Pro doing something …. (on these I clap at the start so I can sync)

    Hi Hiran

My money is on your IPhone outputing a variable frame rate video file. A free software like Handbrake will help you get a fixed frame rate file. Vegas doesn’t like variable frame rate files.

    Cheers !

Ah yes. I notice (looking at MP4 file Properties) that the frame rate on the iPhoneX video is 36 fps. And on the YT rip is 30 pfs. The audio rate is 44k, my project is set to 48k.
So, somewhere there may be the answer/reason.

    Thanks for your help.
