[Scott Walter] “Could the problem be the h.264 codec? HALP!”

That would be my guess. Why are you hacking H.264 into an AVI file? Try rendering with MainConcept AVC and produce a proper MP4 file and see if that fixes things.

I rendered in Sony AVC. Not necessarily a fan of the .mp4 rendering format. I’m doing the opposite, I’m hacking an .avi into h.264. I’ve always had the best results with with h.264 in terms of quality and size. It worked with my Sony Vegas 10 install. I hope it’s not the codecs fault.

[Scott Walter] “I rendered in Sony AVC.”

Did it work? Was the audio in sync?

[Scott Walter] “Not necessarily a fan of the .mp4 rendering format.”

MP4 is the format of choice for all internet delivery. This is what you should be using (or MOV) to deliver AVC/H.264, not AVI.

[Scott Walter] “I’m doing the opposite, I’m hacking an .avi into h.264.”

Yea, but the point you are missing is that H.264 doesn’t belong in an AVI container. People use to do that years ago before the MP4 container became popular. You shouldn’t be doing that any more.

[Scott Walter] “I hope it’s not the codecs fault.”

Vegas Pro has two AVC/H.264 encoders. You should be using one of those.

Apologies, which of the two Vegas encoders are h.264?

    Yes, the Sony AVC worked!

When I render to .mp4 it changes the colors. It borks the hue/saturation and don’t like it.

[Scott Walter] “which of the two Vegas encoders are h.264?”

ManConcept AVC and Sony AVC are both AVC/H.264 encoders.

[Scott Walter] “Yes, the Sony AVC worked!”

So the problem looks like either the free codec you are using or combination of that and the AVI container.

[Scott Walter] “When I render to .mp4 it changes the colors. It borks the hue/saturation and don’t like it.”

I’m not seeing this problem. Are you using 8-bit or 32-bit pixel format? The AVC encoders will map Studio-RGB to Computer-RGB so you should be doing your color correction in Studio-RGB.

If audio and video is out of Sync, there is option on VLC player itself to fix it and still you facing same problem, then you can use “Remo repair MOV” or any other repair utility to fix your MP4 file.
