I am researching methods of detecting epliepsy triggers in video. We are looking for something that will possibly run batch video files detecting for red flash and white flash.

I know you can use the waveform analyser to show peaks but is there a specific plug in I could get, does colour have anything more task specific?

I have found this https://www.hardingfpa.com which is a pattern analyser but at 12k is pretty steep.

Has anybody come across anything similar.

    Thanks

    Hi dan,
I’ve never heard before of this issue and the techniques to avoid it, but is very interesting.
I’ve Google “Epilepsy video analyzer” and found this:

There is a fascinating application of expressions and scripting in After Effects that can be programmed to detect pixels and the execute an action. It was used in a “radar detection” tutorial. You might try searching for those terms, can’t be too hard to find.

Most digital waveform monitors (we have an old Videotek vm100) can be programmed to execute alarms on certain out-of-parameter events. Broadcasters use these devices to trigger an alarm if white goes over 100, pedestal dips below 7.5, or chroma peaks. Presumably, the newer generation of devices can be set up to detect your flashes but I don’t know what events the software can trigger. My old unit simply closes and latches a low voltage relay.

indeed After effects expression can sample color and can trigger.
    a counter if you want.
    look at
    https://www.motionscript.com/
it take’s time if your completly new in this but if you know what you want to measure
and have some patience i guess expressions can help you

Yeah found this also when searching specifically on photosensitive epilepsy, it seems to be a freeware version of the highly expensive Cambrisge Systems software, it may actually work for us in the short term but if we were to have a few hundred video files to analyse a week it would be very time consuming, ideally there would be a batch video checker that would work on our server, something that may be possible through the final cut server and the AE response I had, it is going to take a lot of research and fine tuning but surely I can save the company 12k by doing it this way.

    Thanks

Dan, I don’t know anything about your research model but I do know from my studies in physics, and from taking sociology and psychology practica, that trying to figure out how to make an experiment deliver the results you thought you wanted after the experimental process is adopted is a death spiral.

Change the documentation process or your experiments’ results will be incredible.
