Vidcap with Firewire – Audio Issues with VLC
I’m recording directly from DV Cameras through a switcher to my PC. The recorded DV files work in Vegas, no problem.
However, I have noticed that the same DV files that work in Vegas, do not work so well when I try to preview them outsided of Vegas using other utility players including VLC, MS Media Player, etc. It usually is a problem with the audio, it’s as if there is no audio(again it works find in vegas). With VLC the issue appears to be AV sync and the audio is ahead of the video.
Any suggestions? Are there tried and true media play (like VLC) that work consistenly?

I haven’t done this for years (like 5) and technology has changed a good deal.
The problems I had involved computer speed. I could capture uncompressed to the HDD but did not have sufficient power to compress on-the-fly. The result was a huge good file that because of the data rate involved could not be played back accurately. I see this today on ‘lesser’ computers when I try to playback 25Mbps HD video.
If you render your video to a target file it might playback just fine. How many MB are in 1 minutes worth of captured DV?

thanks for the suggestions.I’m able to render the video fine, but the issue is with the video that is recorded and playing in back with something other than Vegas.
What I have found out in the meantime is that the switcher that I am using, a DataVideo SE-800 is having some issues with the DV out. I was able to record the DV video straight from the camcorder (bypassing the switcher) and it seems to work fine. I will have to pursue the issue with the switcher, it may need to go in for repair.Thanks again,
