Vhs to Final Cut/ Pro Video Cam
I know now, ( from my previous posts, thank you), that to import analog VHS footage into FCE that I need to plug a VHS player into a Camera that will convert the signal to DV and firewire that to my Powerbook G4. I say Video Cam as opposed to Digital converter because i want to purchase a new Camera anyway. My current Sony DCR-TRV140 Digital Cam is a great old beginner cam but will not do this and I’m ready to take it to the next level, as I am just a hobbyist.
Question1; Can you suggest a Cam that will do this and serve as the next level in my progression as an editor/movie maker. What do I look for in the “features” that will tell me that a cam can do this? And maybe you could explain quickly what port does this.I realize I’m looking at a couple thousand dollars or more here.
Question2; I’ve checked out the VHS machines on the consumer level that will play VHS and dubb to DVD. And some even output a Usb signal but only from the DVD player. These are in the 200-400 dollar range. Would this be good enough to get the VHS footage into Final Cut Express? And do I just use the RCA video out ports?
Thank you for any help
