    Hey guys,
I have about 40 VHS tapes that my dad wants me to put onto DVDs for him. I was thinking it might be a good way to make a bit of money on the side too and offer that service locally to people. Could someone tell me the easiest process to do this? What unit should I buy that allows VHS to be controlled by FCP? I have FCP 7 with a MacBook Pro i7.
Also I have some cassette tapes that he wants on CD… any suggestions on that too.
    thanks
    jared

Do you have a Mini DV camcorder or deck? This would be the easiest. You won’t have deck control on a VCR. High-end 1/2″ Editing decks would allow this.

Run y/c or composite out of the VCR into the Camcorder and FW out of the Camcorder into comp.

Cassettes deck – same thing. Run your stereo R/L out of deck into DV camera.

    OR

Buy an I/O card with analog connections and a Desktop machine.

am i recording the VHS tape onto the mini dv tape or just running the VCR into the mini dv camera so that the mini dv cam can be my control deck?

Some cams will let you run it through. Then you can skip the step of dubbing it all to tape. You’ll need to turn off deck control.
