Hi, I would be very thankful if someone could help me with this.

G4 tower, FCP 5, Pyro A/V link used to transfer. I had been using my Hi8, from the camera thru the box and into the unit. This was working. Then it stopped. For 2 months now & I’m at a loss. It went into the shop for a crashed internal drive. Now using a SeaGate external drive. My Video is all jacked. audio is fine. but the video starts and stops and freezes, etc.. I think it’s my settings somewhere. But maybe not. But it did ingest Hi8 just fine for a while and I’m not sure when or why thats stopped.

Any help would be very very helpful.

    Thanks.

Is your external drive a usb? If it is, you want to use a firewire drive. The other thing you might be having issues with is the timebase, because of the Hi8 analog format. Timebase issues are usually the case if you have colors warping and jumping around. I found, I used to have trouble taking in Hi8 material straight due to this. You can either buy a cheap timebase corrector, I thing you can get a a cheap one on B&H for about $300. The other trick, is to dub your Hi8 over to mini DV first (since most dv camcorders have a built in TBC) and then capture the mini DV as you normally would. Hope that helps.
