    Hi,

I have digitized a 2.5 hour VHS through FCP and it is now a 38G file. What would be the best way to compress this so i can squeeze it onto a regular DVD that I will author with DVD Studio Pro? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

I hope quality is not your main concern with this project. 2.5 hours on the a DVD-5 is not going to look great. The best way to do it is by determining how much the audio will take first. I’d export a AIFF file from FCP of the audio and compress that in A PACK. AC3 192. Once you know the size of the audio portion then test compress the video to fit what is left. Remember that the 4.7 GB disc is only 4.3GB. Audio will be real close to 300MB so your video target size will be close to 3.99 GB or less.

    Hope this helps-

Just send it into Compressor and use the DVD Fastest Encode 150 minutes with the AC-3 audio. 2.5 hours is not going to look as good as a 60 minute DVD, but it should still look pretty good.
